Generalist Program

RBC Capital Markets offers a unique opportunity for bright, talented, driven individuals to gain broad and diverse experience working amongst top professionals within our Global Equity Markets, Global Research and Global Investment Banking Divisions. Given the diverse world of capital markets, we recognize the challenge for driven and intelligent individuals to know at this early stage in their career where their talents are best suited.

Our Generalist Program is a unique, well-established internship that gives candidates an opportunity to experience the many diverse areas of capital markets. This 16-month program is offered to a select number of individuals who have displayed outstanding ability in academics and extracurricular activities, as well as a strong interest in capital markets.

The objective of the program is to provide an unparalleled opportunity for individuals to gain experience in the major functional areas of RBC Capital Markets and identify the areas of our business that best suit their interests and skills. Generalists have set rotations through Global Equity, Global Research, Corporate Finance, Mergers & Acquisitions and other relevant areas.

Successful Generalists acquire the fundamental skills employed by the various groups within capital markets that are necessary to be successful in this dynamic and fast-paced industry. Generalists are given the unique opportunity to apply related work experience and financial theory learned through their formal education while working with some of the best and brightest professionals in the business.

What we look for

Previous Generalists have achieved an MBA or a professional designation in, but not limited to, finance, economics, and engineering. Successful candidates are selected based on their practical related capital markets work experience, market knowledge, financial analysis prowess, academic excellence, and strong communication skills. Upon completion of the program, Generalists will join a mutually agreed on department in equities, research or investment banking. As a prerequisite to acceptance in the Generalist Program, successful candidates must have successfully completed their CSC and CPH prior to starting the program and will be expected to further their studies by enrolling in the Chartered Financial Analyst Program.
